Toronto, ON (November 23, 2012) – TSN’s Gord Miller was honoured earlier today by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Historical Committee and its chairman, IIHF President René Fasel, as Miller was named 2013 recipient of the Paul Loicq Award for his commitment and dedication to the IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP and 18 years of broadcasting excellence with TSN.
“On behalf of everyone at TSN, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Gord for being honoured by the IIHF Historical Committee today with the 2013 Paul Loicq Award,” said Mark Milliere, Senior Vice-President, Production, TSN. “This is a tremendous and well-deserved award for Gord that speaks to his tireless commitment to his craft and to hockey.”
"I am deeply grateful to the IIHF for this award. In truth, I am being honoured for doing something I love, something which has given so much to me. Broadcasting international hockey has allowed me to see the game played at an exceptionally high level in places all over the world. Thanks to my involvement with IIHF events, I have made countless friends in dozens of countries,” said Miller. “By recognizing me, the IIHF is also recognizing my colleagues from TSN, who have worked hard to bring international hockey to fans around the world.”
The IIHF’s highest individual prize, the Paul Loicq Award is awarded for exceptional contributions to international ice hockey. The award is named after Belgian Paul Loicq, who was the IIHF’s President for 25 years (1922-1947), and also a player and referee. Loicq was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961.
Miller has covered hockey extensively as a host, reporter and commentator since joining TSN in 1990. He was the host of TSN’s coverage of the IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP from 1994-2001 and has been the play-by-play voice of the tournament on TSN since 2002. On the international stage, Miller has also covered the IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, IIHF WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, IIHF UNDER-18 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, and hockey at the Olympic Games. He is also a play-by-play commentator for the NHL ON TSN.
TSN has live coverage of the 2013 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP from Ufa, Russia, from December 26, 2012 to January 5, 2013.
